Human exposure to contaminants

(PIS : N. TIRADO, M. APARICIO AND J. GARDON)

– Human exposes to:

  • mining contaminants (Sb and Pb) drinking water
  • geogenic contaminants: Arsenic (As), lithium (Li) & boron (B) in groundwater

Community-based mapping of contaminants (drinking water)

Exposure diagnostics (risk factor assessment) throughout life (genotoxicity and neurotoxicity ).

Arsenic: simple monitoring test kits with communities to establish risk maps

Use of natural water (wells) vs. technological water (i.e., filtered to reduce As levels):

  – evaluate the investment of communities in water management (maintenance)

  – accompany communities towards less restrictive and healthier alternatives
